The largest on record weighed 2,552 pounds, named Big Bill and measuring 5 feet high and 9 feet long. Have well developed sense of smell. They can find things underground and have been used in truffle searches and to sniff out drugs in service to policemen. Their squeal can be louder than the sound of a supersonic Concorde – up to 115 decibels. A sow typically gives birth to 6-12 piglets and may have more than one litter per year. There is a sow on record that gave birth to 37 piglets. The gestation period is 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days, or 115 days in total. The average weight of a newborn is 3 pounds. A human seldom gets sick from being around them, but humans can give pigs such diseases as influenza, ring worm and hoof and mouth disease from the bacteria on our skin. Live for 9 to 15 years
